Air Sealing – Building Thermal Envelope Test:

New Construction: $300 up to 3000 sq’ of conditioned floor area, 10 cents per sq’ over 3000 sq’. If necessary, a $60 per hr. charge will be added if the certified technician is asked to stay and help locate leaks and an additional $10. per hr. will be added if the technician is assisted by a Hot Shotz associate. Mileage fee of 1.00 per mile over a total round trip of 50 miles. (6% WV tax. where applicable) Payment is due upon completion of the onsite testing.

The building or dwelling unit shall be tested and verified as having an air leakage rate not exceeding 3 air changes per hour.  Testing shall be conducted with a blower door at a pressure of 0.2 inches w.g. (50 Pascals).  Testing shall be performed at any time after creation of all penetrations of the building thermal envelope. 

 

Duct Testing:

New Construction: $250 total duct leakage test.

Add $100.00 for each additional system.

All registers boots are to be sealed by the home builder, HVAC contractor etc.  The boot shall be included in the test. The above hourly rate will be added for assisting in the locating of leaks using theatrical fog. A $75.00 fee and the mileage fee of 1.00 per mile over a total round trip of 50 miles will be assessed when arriving to the job and the system is not ready for testing and must be rescheduled or the hourly rate will apply if the Hot Shotz technician must wait and or help for the duct to be sealed. Payment is due upon completion of the on-site testing.

Post construction test:

Total leakage shall be less than or equal to 4 cfm (113.3 L/min) per 100 square feet (9.29 m2) of conditioned floor area when tested at a pressure differential of 0.1 inches w.g. (25 Pa) across the entire system, including the manufacturer’s air handler enclosure. All register boots shall be taped or otherwise sealed during the test.

Rough-in test:

Total leakage shall be less than or equal to 4 cfm (113.3 L/min) per 100 square feet

(9.29 m2) of conditioned floor area when tested at a pressure differential of 0.1 inches w.g.

(25 Pa) across the system, including the manufacturer’s air handler enclosure. All registers shall be taped or otherwise sealed during the test. If the air handler is not installed at the time of the test, total leakage shall be less than or equal to 3 cfm (85 L/min) per 100 square feet (9.29 m2) of conditioned floor area.

 

Exception: The total leakage test is not required for ducts and air handlers located entirely within the building thermal envelope.

Minimum R value:

Supply ducts in attics shall be insulated to a minimum of R-8. (Exception: Ducts or portions thereof located completely inside the building thermal envelope).  All other ducts shall be insulated to a minimum of R-6.  Building framing cavities shall not be used as ducts or plenums.

25 pascals = 0.10025 IWC = 0.003625 psi.

50 pascals = 0.2005 IWC = 0.00725 psi.
